Rev Chris Barlas
Chris was inducted as our minister on Tuesday 21st October 2025.
Originally from Greenock, Chris, who came to faith in Christ later in life through a life changing encounter with Jesus, has experienced first-hand the wonderful grace, love, and forgiveness that can only come from God.
Before answering God’s call to ministry with the Church of Scotland, Chris worked as a staff nurse and in community development supporting people leaving prison. He has also gained a wealth of experience following his work with young people, both through employment and volunteering.
In preparation for his ministry, Chris immersed himself in the day-to-day workings of the church, leading worship, developing new outreach initiatives including a ‘Café Church and providing pastoral care. Over the years, he developed a passion for athletics and represented Scotland in cross-country running. This keen interest allied with his Christian faith led him to serve as Sports Chaplain for Inverclyde Athletics Club, the first such role in athletics in Scotland.
Chris is married to Marion, and is a dad, stepdad, and grandfather.
Chris says, “I am extremely blessed and excited to serve as minister of this wonderful church family. I’m passionate about sharing the hope and transformation that comes through a relationship with Jesus and am excited to see how God will move in this community and in the lives of every person who walks through the doors of Craigowl Church. God is causing something very special to happen here and I am honoured to be part of this journeying together.”
